Short Update
Nagaland records 800 rooftop solar installations against 10,000 target under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

Nagaland has only done about 800 rooftop solar setups so far. The goal was 10,000 homes under the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Albert Ovung, Executive Engineer at Chümoukedima Electrical Division, shared this at the two-day Seva Setu Abhiyan launch on Oct 14.
Nagaland offers the highest subsidy under the scheme. Neighbouring Assam has already hit its target of one lakh units. Dimapur leads with over 200 setups. Chümoukedima has the biggest total solar capacity, nearly 800 kW from private and community setups.
Power gap and tariff estimates
Ovung says Nagaland may need Rs 450 crore a year to cover a 100 MW gap from the energy market. Right now, state power demand is 200 MW. It could go up to 300 MW by 2030. Tariffs might hit Rs 15 per unit in five years.
Registration and community solar
People can bring their electricity bills, ID cards, and bank details to the Seva Setu camp. Registration happens on the spot. The PM solar scheme can also be taken through soft loans. Under the CM's Community Solar Partnership, solar units are already set up in community halls in 14 of the 24 chosen villages in Chümoukedima.
