Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has replaced the older mAadhaar app with a new Aadhaar App. The new Aadhaar App was dedicated to the nation on 28 January 2026 and is now available for both Android and iOS users. People can uninstall the old mAadhaar app and install the new Aadhaar App to carry, show, share and verify their Aadhaar details on a registered mobile number.
The new Aadhaar App is a next generation mobile application made by UIDAI. It lets Aadhaar number holders carry their Aadhaar number and demographic details like name, date of birth, gender, address and photograph on their smartphones. The app has crossed 21 million downloads within three months of launch, and over 28 lakh people have already updated their mobile number using it. Nearly 6,00,000 people have used the app to update their address.
New Aadhaar App Download for Android and iOS
The new Aadhaar App is the official replacement for the mAadhaar app. UIDAI is slowly retiring the older mAadhaar app, so residents are advised to switch to the new app. The new app brings face verification, biometric lock and unlock in a single click, authentication history and a QR based contact card for easy sharing of details.
The app supports up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single device, which supports the idea of One Family, One App. Residents can now update their registered mobile number and address directly from the app, and email update is also available free until the end of the year. The new app works on Android and Apple iOS platforms.

FAQ's
What is the iOS compatible version for the new Aadhaar app
The new Aadhaar app for iPhone requires iOS 16.0 or later.
Does my profile on the app get inactive when I change to a new phone with the registered mobile number
Yes, the Aadhaar profile in a phone gets deactivated the moment the same profile is registered in another mobile. Aadhaar can be registered only in one device at a time.
Where can the new Aadhaar app be used
The app can be used anywhere in India. The Aadhaar profile is accepted as a valid ID proof at airports and railways, and the app can be used to share eKYC or QR code with service providers who need Aadhaar verification.
Can I update my Aadhaar details like DOB and mobile number through the app
Yes, the new Aadhaar App allows updating the registered mobile number and address directly from the app. Email update is also available free until the end of the year. Photo and biometric updates still require a visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
Is there any difference in the app based on iOS and Android devices
The new Aadhaar App provides the same services to both iOS and Android users. The functionality and user experience remain the same on both platforms.
Is it compulsory to have a registered mobile number to use the app
No. Anyone in India with a smartphone can install and use the app. Without an Aadhaar registered mobile number, a resident can use only a few services such as ordering an Aadhaar reprint, locating an enrolment centre, verifying Aadhaar and scanning a QR code. A registered mobile number is required for all other Aadhaar services and profile services under My Aadhaar.
The new Aadhaar App is released by the Unique Identification Authority of India with the aim of reaching a large number of smartphone users. The app offers an array of Aadhaar services and a personalised section for Aadhaar holders who can carry their Aadhaar information as a soft copy instead of a physical card. For more details, residents can visit the official UIDAI website.
