August 2026 Update: Verification is now complete and the numbers are much bigger than first reported. Government records show over 92 lakh beneficiaries removed from Ladki Bahin Yojana, which is about 38 percent of everyone enrolled. Around 62 lakh of these were dropped only for not finishing the mandatory eKYC. The scheme now covers about 1.5 crore women, down from a peak of nearly 2.43 crore before checking began. Removed beneficiaries had together received around ₹14,000 crore before payments stopped. Women who have completed eKYC and clear eligibility keep getting ₹1,500 per month under Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana. CAG audit tabled on 10 July 2026 flagged ₹3,541 crore excess spending and pointed out that ₹15,586 crore was parked in deposit accounts without immediate need. The removal of over 92 lakh beneficiaries saves the state more than ₹16,500 crore per year.
Monthly installments of ₹1,500 continue for all verified beneficiaries. The June 2026 installment was expected to reach bank accounts between July 12 and 15, 2026. The August 2026 payment date has not been officially announced yet. Payments are typically credited between the 5th and 15th of each month via DBT. The annual eKYC re-verification window ran from June 1 to July 15, 2026. Women with completed eKYC should check their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts for the latest credit.
Important for removed beneficiaries: If any account was removed from the Ladki Bahin Yojana list, the online correction facility is currently not available. Women in this situation should visit the nearest Women and Child Development Department office with required documents or call Helpline 181 for support. Women who were wrongly removed due to the government employee question error can approach the CSC center or Anganwadi Sevika for correction.
eKYC Deadline Extension History
The eKYC deadline for Ladki Bahin Yojana was extended four times since the process started in September 2025. Each extension was given to help more women complete verification, but the April 30 deadline was treated as final by the Maharashtra government.
- November 2025 - First deadline set after eKYC process launched on 18 September 2025
- 31 December 2025 - Extended for the first time as millions were yet to complete verification
- 31 March 2026 - Extended again; correction window opened for wrongly flagged accounts
- 30 April 2026 - Final extension announced by Minister Aditi Tatkare; deadline now over
Why Were 92 Lakh Accounts Removed?
The Maharashtra government launched the eKYC exercise after finding that ineligible beneficiaries, including male family members and government employees, had been receiving ₹1,500 per month under the scheme. The state found around 14,000 men who had received the scheme benefit, along with over 7.97 lakh women enrolled as a third member from the same family when the scheme allows only two women per household.
During verification, a confusingly worded Marathi question caused major problems. The question "Tumchya gharatle koni sarkari nokrit nahi na?" (Nobody in your family works for the government, right?) was misread by over 24 lakh women who ticked the wrong option. After further checks, nearly 20 lakh of those accounts were confirmed eligible and payments were restored. The remaining cases where accounts were genuinely ineligible were permanently closed after April 30.
Here is how the final removals break down, as per government records. Nearly 62 lakh (67%) were removed only for not completing eKYC. About 16 lakh (17%) had family income above the ₹2.5 lakh limit. Around 4.42 lakh declared a government job in the family, and about 3.6 lakh were already getting help under Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana. Nearly 2.5 lakh cases had more than two members of one family drawing benefits, about 1.8 lakh were above the age of 65, and roughly 29,000 men plus around 8,000 government employees were found getting the money despite being ineligible.
Minister Aditi Tatkare has said the government did not simply remove women, and that everyone who registered and stayed eligible kept getting benefits until eKYC was done. She added that beneficiaries got repeated chances, with the deadline pushed to 31 December 2025, before payments were stopped. On recovery, the CM has said money will not be recovered from ordinary women, only from the male beneficiaries and government staff who were not eligible.
Ladki Bahin Yojana eKYC - Current Status (August 2026)
Ladki Bahin Yojana eKYC was active on the official portal ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in from September 2025 till April 30, 2026. The process required women to authenticate using Aadhaar number and OTP to confirm their eligibility each year. The first eKYC cycle is over. The annual re-verification window also ran from June 1 to July 15, 2026, and that too has now closed.
Women who completed eKYC successfully received their pending combined payments. Active beneficiaries are now receiving monthly transfers of ₹1,500 through DBT into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. Payments are typically credited between the 5th and 15th of each month. The June installment was expected between July 12 and 15, 2026. August 2026 installment date has not been officially announced yet.
Maharashtra Budget 2026-27 has confirmed the scheme will continue. The government has allocated ₹26,500 crore for Ladki Bahin Yojana for the year, a cut of nearly ₹9,500 crore from ₹36,000 crore in 2025-26, mainly because the active beneficiary count has dropped after verification. The promised increase of the monthly amount from ₹1,500 to ₹2,100 has also not happened yet. CAG audit report tabled on July 10, 2026 flagged ₹3,541 crore in excess expenditure, with the WCD Department spending ₹33,237 crore against an allocation of ₹29,693 crore. The audit also found that ₹15,586 crore was withdrawn between January and March 2025 and parked in Virtual Personal Deposit Accounts without immediate need. CAG asked the state to assess beneficiary numbers more realistically for future DBT schemes.

- Bank account must be Aadhaar NPCI-linked for seamless DBT transfer
- Father's or husband's Aadhaar number for family declaration during verification

Annual eKYC Rule for Ladki Bahin Scheme
Maharashtra government issued a government resolution on 18 September 2025 making Aadhaar-based eKYC required for every beneficiary annually. This rule is now in place permanently and every year beneficiaries must re-verify to keep receiving the monthly ₹1,500.
According to this order, women receiving Ladki Bahin scheme benefits must repeat eKYC every year between June and July. This two-month verification window helps the government update beneficiary records regularly. The 2026 annual window ran from June 1 to July 15, 2026. The next annual window is expected in June-July 2027.
During verification, beneficiaries confirm details of husband or father and declare that the family does not have a government job or pension benefits. Read the Marathi declaration carefully, especially the question about government employment, since many women answered it incorrectly in the 2025-26 cycle.
If eKYC verification does not happen within the given period, monthly payment under Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana will stop until verification is completed.
