West Bengal government has released the new Shramshree Scheme helpline number to support Bengali migrant workers who are returning to the state. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee started this scheme on 18th August 2025 to give financial help and security to lakhs of workers who faced harassment or job loss in other states. This scheme is expected to benefit more than 22.4 lakh migrant workers who belong to West Bengal and are coming back to settle in their home state.
Under this scheme, returning workers will get a monthly support of ₹5000 for up to 12 months, along with a one-time travel support of ₹5000. The aim of Shramshree scheme is not only to provide financial help but also to help workers restart their life with proper livelihood, food and health security in Bengal.
West Bengal Labour Department has also announced that a mobile app and web portal will soon be launched for Shramshree scheme so that workers can apply online easily. Until then, workers can connect with the helpline number for scheme related queries.
