Kerala Plans New Housing Support for SC/ST Families

Kerala is working on a housing scheme to help Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities. Details are not out yet, but this plan will build on existing work like the LIFE Mission. This mission already helps tribal families build, repair, or fix their homes. Eligible people can currently get up to Rs 2.5 lakh for repairs through the SAFE programme.

Housing schemes in southern states

Other southern states also have schemes for these needs. Telangana runs Indiramma Indlu. It offers a subsidy of Rs 5 lakh for house construction, aiming for 4.5 lakh homes in the first phase. Tamil Nadu uses the TAHDCO initiative to help SC women buy land with a subsidy of up to 50% or Rs 5 lakh. Karnataka also supports families through the Dr B R Ambedkar Nivas Yojana. More details will show how the new Kerala plan compares to these systems once the official notice is out.
