Kerala High Court Upholds Vaccination Rule for PMMVY Maternity Benefits

Kerala High Court ruled that childhood vaccination is a required step to get money help under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas dismissed a petition from a Malappuram resident who challenged this rule. The court stated that although citizens can refuse immunization, the government can set rules for how public welfare funds are used.

Court decision on vaccine requirements

This scheme gives a one-time grant of ₹6,000 for the birth of a second girl child. To get this, the baby must receive all required vaccinations within 14 weeks. The court also noted that the father did not have the right to file the case, as the funds are only for the mother to claim. This ruling confirms that financial benefits from the government are not a fundamental right and must follow set rules.
