Kerala Proposes Expanding PM POSHAN Mid-Day Meals to Classes 9-12

Kerala government has asked the Central Government to expand PM POSHAN mid-day meal scheme to cover students in Class 9 to 12. At present, this scheme only includes students in Classes 1 through 8. State General Education Minister N Samsudheen said this proposal was discussed during a meeting in Delhi last month.

Support for students and families

In a separate effort to support families during Onam, the state is giving 4 kilograms of free rice to about 23.5 lakh students in government and aided schools. This effort uses 905 metric tonnes of rice. Also, the government is finishing the distribution of Onam kits to families under Antyodaya Anna Yojana. These kits include cooking staples and spices to help manage food costs during the festival.
