Kerala to Implement PMAY-U 2.0 Amid Political Debate

Kerala government is starting the second phase of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), called PMAY-U 2.0. This scheme will provide homes to 30,000 eligible people and bring ₹450 crore in central help to the state.

Concerns about new rules

Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan has raised issues about the new rules. Under this plan, eligible people must pay 25 per cent of the total cost, which is ₹1 lakh. He says this moves the money burden from the state and local bodies compared to the old LIFE-PMAY model.

Also, the opposition has criticized the state for agreeing to central branding rules. This includes showing logos on houses built for people. Pinarayi Vijayan says the previous government did not agree to these rules while building over five lakh homes under LIFE Mission.
