New Pudhumai Penn Scheme has been launched in Tamil Nadu to support girl students with monthly financial help so they can continue their studies without money problems. This scheme, also called the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme, is one of the biggest steps taken by the Tamil Nadu government for promoting girls’ education.

Started on 5th September 2022, the scheme gives eligible girls ₹1,000 every month until they finish their undergraduate, diploma, ITI or other recognized higher education courses. Recently, on 25th September 2025, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin confirmed the expansion of this scheme under the “Tamil Nadu Excels in Education” program, making it even more beneficial for students.

Through this scheme, lakhs of girls studying in government and government-aided schools are now able to continue their higher education confidently. It is not only reducing school and college dropouts but also helping delay early marriages in poor families.
