Andhra Pradesh chief minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on 3rd February 2023 disbursed first tranche of financial assistance under Jagananna Videshi Vidya Deevena (JVVD) scheme. About 213 students received assistance to the tune of Rs 19.95 crore. The students, who got admissions into top 200 universities of the world, were eligible to get total fee reimbursement under Jagananna Videshi Vidya Deevena.

With a view to allow the meritorious students from the economically weaker sections to realise their dreams of studying in overseas universities, the state government has designed the JVVD in such a way that they aim for seats in top universities in the world. “The scheme was mired controversies during the previous TDP regime as it was designed to favour the select few and rich. We have redesigned the scheme to help the meritorious children from the poor following the chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s instructions,” said social welfare minister. He said that they would implement the JVVD to all eligible students in saturation mode and in utmost transparent manner. Every year selections will be made twice (for fall season & spring season) as per the admissions schedule for Foreign Universities.

“Selection of students is done by a state level selection committee headed by the principal secretaries of concerned departments. Getting admissions in any of the top 200 Universities as per QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) world university rankings has been made mandatory to ensure quality education,” explained social welfare minister. He mentioned “TDP government granted paltry sum of Rs. 15 lakhs to SCs/STs and Rs. 10 Lakhs for others. In fact, the TDP government had left the students in lurch by not clearing dues to the tune of Rs 318 crore since 2016-17”.

Deputy CM said that 100% fee reimbursement of tuition fee to SC/ST/BC/Minority students up to Rs. 1.25 crore and up to Rs. 1 crore to remaining students, would be granted for those who secured ranks in top 100 universities. Similarly, tuition fee up to Rs. 75 lakh to SC/ST/BC/Minority Students and Rs. 50 Lakhs or 50% of tuition fee, whichever is less to the other students, who got admitted in the top 101-200 QS ranking foreign universities would be given.

AP Jagananna Videshi Vidya Deevena Scheme Registration

AP state government has issued notification to revive the scheme aimed at extending financial assistance to the students pursuing higher education in top rated foreign universities. The students will be granted 100% fee-reimbursement if they get admission in the top 100 universities in world as per the QS ratings. The scheme has been renamed as Jagananna Videshi Vidya Deevena from previous Dr BR Ambedkar Videshi Vidya Deevana.

However, the government has completely revised the guidelines of the scheme to help meritorious students from the economically backward classes to realise their dream of pursuing higher education in foreign universities. Now all the students with below 8 lakh annual income could file their applications. “Students from SC, BC, minority, EBC and Kapu sections are eligible to apply for assistance.”

While the students who secured 60% per cent marks in the qualifying degree (graduation) level are eligible to pursue masters, students who want to pursue MBBS abroad should have cleared NEET. The government advised the eligible students to file their applications on www.jnanabhumi.ap.gov.in website to screen their applications. The government has already constituted a high-level committee headed by chief secretary to scrutinise the applications. All the eligible students would get direct assistance from the government without interference of anyone.

  1. I don’t really follow politics but what CM is doing in AP is great. His main priority is education. Education is what shapes a society. That is the foundation to everything good in a society.
