State government started this scholarship in name of legendary writer Fakir Mohan Senapati for promotion of Odia language, to encourage meritorious students to take up higher studies in Odia language at UG and PG level.

Under this scholarship scheme, undergraduate beneficiary gets ₹20,000 at a time, while postgraduate beneficiary gets ₹30,000. Students who took admission in Plus 3 arts with Odia as honours subject (first year) in degree colleges after passing Plus 2 examination with 70 percent marks aggregate conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha, are eligible for applying for this scholarship at UG level.

Similarly, an MA in Odia student with 60 percent marks in Odia honours subject can apply for this scholarship at PG level. As many as 1200 UG and 300 PG students get this scholarship every year.

Information on Vyasakabi Fakir Mohan Senapati Scholarship

Government of Odisha introduced scholarship in name of "Vyasakabi Fakir Mohan Senapati Scholarship" for promotion of Odia Language by way of encouraging meritorious students to take up higher studies in Odia Language. Keeping in view interest shown by students, compared to number of scholarships granted, following guidelines have been issued to encourage students for higher studies in Odia Language.

Criteria of Bhasa Bruti Scholarship for Promotion of Odia Language

  1. Revised guidelines are applicable from academic session 2025-2026 onward.
  2. This is one time scholarship of ₹20,000 for UG students and ₹30,000 for PG students.
  3. Students after passing 12th standard examination with 70% or above marks in aggregate conducted by CHSE, Odisha, and studying in Plus 3 Arts with Odia as Honours subject (1st Year) in Degree Colleges / Autonomous Colleges / State Universities of Odisha or other states will be eligible for applying for this Bhasabruti.
  4. Students after passing Plus 3 in Odia (Honours) examination with 60% or above marks in Odia Honours subject conducted by State Universities/ Autonomous Colleges of Odisha and studying Post-Graduation in Odia in any of the State Universities/ Degree Colleges / Autonomous Colleges of Odisha or other states will also be eligible for applying for this Bhasabruti.
  5. Number of scholarships for Plus 3 Arts with Odia Honours and M.A (Odia) courses is decided by Government, and currently stands at 1200 UG and 300 PG seats.
  6. Students will be selected on basis of marks secured in the qualifying examination, that is, students pursuing Plus 3 Arts having Odia as Honours subject will be selected on basis of their overall marks in Plus 2 examination conducted by CHSE, Odisha. Similarly, students pursuing M.A (Odia) will be selected on basis of marks secured in Odia Honours in Plus 3 Arts Final examination.
  7. Students pursuing their higher studies through distance learning or correspondence courses are not eligible for such scholarship.

Mode of Disbursement

Disbursement is made through Electronic Clearing System (ECS). Payments are made to savings Bank accounts of selected students directly by above system. For this on-line account transfer, Saving Bank A/c of students must be active and in operative condition.

Mode of Submitting Scholarship Application

Desirous students are advised to apply on-line for scholarship by clicking "Vyasakabi Fakir Mohan Senapati Scholarship" in Higher Education Department website, www.dheodisha.gov.in, after going through Guidelines thoroughly and carefully.

After final submission of on-line application form, concerned students are advised to keep a copy of downloaded application form for their future reference and pursue matter. Confirmed application will be automatically forwarded to Institutions.

Role of Head of Educational Institution

Head of Educational Institutions are required to log in the SAMS e-space for required validation of application after receiving same on-line along with supporting documents, that is, Mark Sheet, Bank A/c details, etc, after due verification.

So, for processing or validation of scholarship applications of students, no fees in any manner will be collected from students. It is also expected that more students will get interested to study Odia as Honours Subject at Plus 3 level and Odia at post-graduate level.

Under e-Medhabruti scheme, government provides financial support to meritorious students of Odisha whose parental income does not go beyond ₹6 lakh per annum. Government has made provision of 6000 scholarships for undergraduate (UG) students and 2500 for postgraduate (PG) students. This number is 6000 for students pursuing technical and professional courses. UG students get ₹5,000 per year, while students pursuing PG, technical and professional courses get ₹10,000 per year.

Student is eligible for scholarship for total duration of course. In technical and professional merit categories, only UG professional degree courses and integrated courses are eligible under this head.

This is a great initiative by the hon'ble CM of Odisha. I would like to know whether the scheme is meant for the children of Govt. school only or for all the children who study in Odia language both in Govt. and Private schools.
