Telangana Education Kits Scheme 2026: CM Revanth Reddy set to launch free education kits for students in government schools and hostels from June 2026. Know about the kit items, eligibility, and how the scheme works.

Telangana government is getting ready to launch a brand new Education Kits Scheme ahead of the 2026-27 academic year. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will officially launch the scheme, which will cover nearly 24 lakh students across government schools and residential hostels in the state. This is one of the biggest education welfare moves in Telangana in recent years, coming alongside the revival of the Chief Minister Breakfast Scheme for government school students.

Hostel students in gurukuls and other residential schools will get a full kit of 24 items, while students who attend school daily (day scholars) will get 3 essential items - shoes, socks, and belts. The government has already started the tender process and set June 12 (school reopening day) as the target for distribution.

Telangana Education Kits Scheme 2026 - Key Details

The scheme is part of Telangana's bigger push to bring government school education at par with private schools. Officials have pointed out that around 50% of students in elementary government schools do not wear proper footwear, and 5 to 10% of high school students face the same problem - especially those walking long distances from villages. This scheme directly addresses that gap.

Two different kit packages are being provided under this scheme based on whether the student is a day scholar or a residential student. Residential students studying in gurukuls, KGBVs, model schools, tribal welfare schools, and other government society-run institutions will benefit the most, getting all 24 items covering both academic needs and daily hostel life.

Who Will Benefit from This Scheme?

The scheme is split into two main groups of beneficiaries. Students in residential institutions get a much bigger package, while day scholars get the 3 most basic but most needed items.

  • Hostel / Residential Students (~5 lakh): Students staying in gurukuls, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), model schools, tribal welfare schools, and other government society-run residential institutions will receive a full 24-item kit covering uniforms, bedding, stationery, utensils, bags and more.
  • Day Scholar Students (~19 lakh): Students attending government schools as day scholars will get 3 items - shoes, socks, and belts. This is in addition to free textbooks and mid-day meals they already receive. This is the first time footwear is being included for day scholars as a separate scheme item.

Complete List of 24 Items in the Education Kit

The 24-item kit for hostel students covers everything they need for both academics and daily residential life. The items have been grouped into nine categories, with separate tenders floated for each group to make sure quality standards are maintained. Here is the full list of what each hostel student will receive:

  • Uniforms: School uniform and white uniform
  • Footwear and Accessories: Shoes, socks, belts, ties, ID cards
  • Academic and Sports Gear: School bag, stationery, PT dress, tracksuit, trolley bags, notebooks
  • Residential / Bedding Items: Night dress, carpet, bedsheet, blanket, towel
  • Utensils: Plate, glass, bowl, cup, spoon, trunk box

Institutions Covered Under This Scheme

The scheme covers a wide range of government-run residential and day school institutions across Telangana. All items given to gurukul students will also be extended to students in KGBVs, model school hostels and urban residential schools. The institutions that are covered are government schools (day scholars), gurukul schools (residential), Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), model school hostels, tribal welfare schools, urban residential schools, and other institutions run by government societies.

Tender Process and Delivery Timeline

TGSWREIS is handling the entire procurement process as the nodal agency. A project monitoring unit has already been set up and review meetings with senior officials have been conducted. The 24 items have been grouped into nine categories with separate tenders for each, making it a large-scale and well-structured procurement process.

The deadline for bid submissions was set as April 13, 2026. A pre-bid meeting was already held at Samkshema Bhavan, Masab Tank, where officials briefed contractors on the strict timelines involved. Once contractors are selected, they must complete supply of all items within 45 days and make sure everything reaches schools and hostels by the first week of June 2026 - well before the school reopening date of June 12. The government has also made barcoding required for every item to make tracking and monitoring easier.

Strict Penalty Rules for Contractors

The Telangana government has put in place very strict rules to make sure there is no delay in delivery. A penalty of 1% for every 15 days of delay will be imposed on contractors who miss deadlines. Contractors who fail to deliver may be blacklisted for 7 years or permanently debarred from taking part in any future government tenders. This shows how seriously the government wants to make sure kits reach students on time and in good quality.

Comparison with Previous KCR School Kit Scheme

This is not the first time Telangana has tried to roll out school kits for students. The earlier KCR School Kit Scheme had proposed school bags, shoes, socks, ties, belts and ID cards for around 25 lakh students under the then BRS government. The current Education Kits Scheme under CM Revanth Reddy is bigger in scope - particularly for hostel students, who will now get a much more complete package of 24 items including bedding, daily-use utensils, PT dress and trolley bags.
