Tripura Achieves 17 MW Rooftop Solar Milestone

Tripura achieved a big step under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Rooftop solar panels now generate over 17 MW of power in the state. As of 28th August 2026, 4,975 consumers joined this scheme. The government paid subsidies of ₹35.35 crore to 4,185 of these families.

Solar power benefits

Many households see their electricity bills drop to zero. Some families even earn money by sending extra power back to the grid. A standard 1 kW solar plant usually creates 100 units of electricity each month. The state aims to reach a 50 MW target by 2027.
