CAG Audit Reveals Irregularities in Jharkhand Rural Schemes

Recent reports shared in Jharkhand Assembly show planning and work issues in major welfare schemes. A CAG audit found gaps in Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

Scheme performance details

For Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin, Jharkhand found 2.234 million eligible families by November 2022. The Centre approved only 1.602 million because of list errors and delays. By January 2025, builders finished 1,562,249 houses. However, financial management was weak and funds were not fully used.

Audit of Jal Jeevan Mission shows that only 27,249 of 97,535 approved schemes were finished by December 2024. By March 2025, 55 percent of homes had tap connections. This is below the 80 percent national average.

MGNREGA audit also found mismatched financial data. Workers remained unpaid for Rs 3.22 billion of unskilled labour between 2019 and 2024. Out of 10,268,484 proposed works, less than 28 percent were finished. Almost half of the projects stayed incomplete even after spending a lot of money.
