Jharkhand entrepreneur achieves 150 tonnes annual fish production using PMMSY

Suman Kumar, a fish farmer in Giridih district, Jharkhand, now produces 150 tonnes of fish annually across 32 ponds using benefits from Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. He started with eight ponds that produced 45 to 50 tonnes in the first year, and his business now employs 30 to 40 local residents.
Operational details
The business uses scientific pond management and modern technology to farm fish like Rohu and Catla. Wholesale prices for these fish are Rs 180 to Rs 200 per kilogram, with a profit margin of 50 to 60 per cent. The fish go to markets in Jharkhand and Bihar. He plans to reach 500 tonnes of production each year.
