Poor Widow's Daughter & Orphan Girls Marriage Scheme: Delhi government is running Widow Daughter Marriage Scheme 2026 and applications can be submitted online at edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in as well as offline at the District WCD office. Under this scheme, the government gives a one time amount of ₹30,000 to poor widows for the marriage of their daughters (up to two daughters), and to guardians or institutions for the marriage of an orphan girl. As per a Delhi High Court order dated 2 January 2026, the income limit for EWS applicants has been raised from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh a year, so many more families can now apply.

Assistance is paid as a one time grant under the scheme called "Financial Assistance to Poor Widows for Marriage of their Daughters and Financial Assistance for Orphan Girl for their Marriage". Application must be submitted within 60 days before or after the marriage date.

How to Apply for Widow Daughter Marriage Scheme 2026 Online

Eligible widows and guardians of orphan girls can apply through the e-District portal without visiting the district office. The process is simple if all documents are ready before starting.

STEP 1 - Go to the e-District Delhi portal at edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in and register as a new user if not already registered, using Aadhaar and mobile number. STEP 2 - Click on 'Registered User Login', enter the login ID, password and captcha code, then click Login. STEP 3 - On the main page, click 'Apply Online' and select Department of Women & Child Development from the dropdown list, then choose the Widow Daughter Marriage Scheme form. STEP 4 - Fill in personal details, bank account details and marriage details, then click Continue. STEP 5 - Upload the required documents and a passport size photograph, review the form once, and click Finish. An OTP will come on the registered mobile number to confirm submission, and an acknowledgment number will be generated for tracking status later.

Those who find the online process difficult can still submit a physical application form at the District Office of Social Welfare & Women and Child Development, along with attested copies of documents.

Documents Required for Widow Daughter Marriage Scheme

Keep these documents ready in scanned copy before starting the online form, as the portal will ask to upload them one by one.

  • Death certificate of husband issued by the Registrar of Births & Deaths, needed for widow applicants.
  • Ration card, voter ID card or any other document that shows at least 5 years of residence in Delhi.
  • Age proof of the girl such as school leaving certificate or birth certificate showing she is above 18 years.
  • Marriage invitation card or marriage certificate of the marriage for which assistance is sought.
  • Self declaration by the applicant about her income and that no assistance has been taken from any other government or non-government source for the same marriage.
  • Passbook or bank statement of a singly operated, Aadhaar linked bank account for receiving the payment through electronic clearing system.

Revised Income Criteria for Widow Daughter Marriage Scheme

Earlier, only widows with annual family income up to ₹1 lakh could apply for this scheme. Following a Delhi High Court order dated 2 January 2026, the Department of Women and Child Development has raised the EWS income limit to ₹5 lakh a year. This is a big change, since many families who were left out earlier due to the old income cap can now apply for the ₹30,000 marriage assistance.

Quantum of Assistance and Mode of Payment

Quantum of assistance is ₹30,000 only, paid through account payee cheque in the name of the applicant or directly through ECS/DBT into her bank account. The account should be singly operated and Aadhaar linked, as payment through any joint account is not accepted.

Eligibility Criteria for Delhi Widow Daughter Marriage Scheme

  • Applicant has been residing in Delhi for more than 5 years preceding the date of application.
  • Family annual income does not exceed ₹5 lakh, as per the revised EWS criteria applicable from 2026.
  • Applicant has a singly operated, Aadhaar linked bank account for receiving payment through electronic clearing system.
  • Applicant is not receiving any pension from Central Govt, State Govt, MCD, NDMC or any other source for the same purpose.
  • Girl for whose marriage assistance is sought should be major on the date of marriage, that is above 18 years of age.
  • In case of a widow applicant, assistance can be granted for marriage of up to two daughters only.
