Under the Mukhyamantri Udiyaman Khiladi Unnayan Yojana 2026, the state government provides a monthly scholarship of Rs. 1,500 to budding sportspersons. A total of 3,900 budding sportspersons including 1,950 boys and an equal number of girls are given the scholarship every year. The chief minister of Uttarakhand state also appointed eight sports coaches in each district.

The scheme is run by the Department of Sports, Government of Uttarakhand. It finds and nurtures young sporting talent by giving monthly financial support to promising children aged 8 to 14 years. The selection of players is done through the Physical and Sports Aptitude Test (P-SAT) and battery test, and the scholarship is paid through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

The selection of players is done through trials. The trials start from the block level and end at the final district level. Each district selects its own players and gives them the scholarship for one year. After one year, trials are held again and newly selected players get the scholarship.

Creation of CM Sports Development Fund

On the occasion of National Sports Day, a programme was held in Dehradun where the Mukhyamantri Udiyaman Khiladi Unnayan Yojana was launched. On this occasion, sports scholarships were announced for upcoming players aged 8 to 14 years. The appointment of sports coaches for every district and the creation of the Chief Minister's Sports Development Fund to give financial benefits to players were also announced.

Chief Minister's Sports Development Fund has been created to give quick financial benefits to the players in accordance with rules. A 4% reservation for skilled players in state services has also been announced. Dhami said the contractual trainers of the Uttarakhand sports department would be given an honorarium at par with the honorarium payable to the contractual trainers of the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
