Tamil Nadu govt. has started distributing Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit under Dr. Muthulakshmi Maternity Benefit Scheme for pregnant women. The Tamilnadu state is leading the country in health sector and the sophisticated medicare services, manpower and infrastructure makes the states a role model to be emulated. The state govt. has launched Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit in which kits worth Rs. 4,000 would be given to pregnant women. This scheme was launched at the Egmore Government Maternity Hospital and govt. has taken into account the need to enhance the facilities at govt. hospitals across the state. All those women who have delivered babies before 1 January are not eligible under the revised Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme.

Tamil Nadu Health and Family welfare Department has enhanced the financial assistance to poor pregnant mothers from Rs. 12000 to Rs. 18000. This scheme is strengthened with Amma Maternity Nutrition kit with a view to reduce Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in Tamilnadu state. TN Dr. Muthulakshmi Maternity Benefit Scheme aims to provide optimal nutrition for pregnant and lactating women and compensates the wage loss during pregnancy.

Eligibility Condition
The applicants must fulfill the below mentioned criteria to become eligible for Dr. Muthulakshmi Maternity Benefit Scheme:-
- The pregnant mother should have completed 19 yrs of age
- The eligible mother will receive all 5 Installments for two deliveries only
- HOB and Migrant mothers will receive 1st and 5th installments on certain conditions
Procedure to Obtain Benefit / Service
The pregnant mother should register her pregnancy before 12 weeks with the VHN / UHN or she should have pre-registered her pregnancy before 12 weeks.

Tamil Nadu Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit Scheme
The assistance under the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme has already been raised to Rs. 18,000. Under Dr. Muthulakshmi Maternity Benefit Scheme, an Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit worth Rs. 4,000 (approx.) would also be provided. Around 12 nutritious items including dry fruits such as dates that are necessary for health pregnancy would be added in kit.
Distribution of Amma Maternity Nutrition Kits in Tamilnadu
These Amma Maternity Nutrition Kits are distributed twice once at the 12th week and for the second time between 16th and 20th week of pregnancy. The Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit Scheme which was announced during FY 2018-19 aims to provide iron tonic and nutritional supplements to pregnant women. This kit is given under the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme under which the pregnant women will receive cash assistance.
Out of the total benefit of Rs. 18,000 in TN Muthulakshmi Maternity Benefit Scheme, govt. will provide assistance of Rs. 14,000 along with Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit worth Rs. 4,000. Around 21 lakh mothers had already been benefitted under the Amma Baby Kit which was launched by late CM J. Jayalalithaa (Amma) in September 2015.
Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme in Tamil Nadu is going to benefit around 8 lakh pregnant women every year. This scheme for pregnant women would significantly reduce the maternal and infant mortality rates.

My wife pregnancy confirmed on march 2020 & we registered for PICME. After 5 months we got amma kit. Now my wife delivery was done on Egmore government hospital on November 2020. Now we are asking for another kit, but our anganwadi sister is saying that only one time we will give. But in this scheme government is giving 2 kits for pregnant ladies. And also that 14,000 amount also not came to my wife account. She is cheating with that 1 kit. For this what i have to do and where i have to raise complaint. Please guide me friends.
Oct 5 2021 my delivery date still I didn’t receive nutrition kit
I register in rch number and i was cheak up in seven wells health center . This is my second delivery . Now i pregnent in twins .I never got any nutrition bag in seven wells health center i am now pregnent . My delivery date 3 / 9 /21.

Due to this covid’19 we got only nutrition kit, Except that I didn’t get any above said benefits, even delivery done at krishnagiri GH only. We were tried in many ways to get, but no use.
GH Nurse simply said like “mistakenly your application missed, so you submit your application once again”. Again We have submitted the application for 4 times, still no response. Doctors got changed and Nurses got changed but complaint remains same. What to do?

Y’all should Pre register your pregnancy (before 12 months)to the village health nurse of urban health nurse. No wonder y’all didn’t receive multiple benefits.
