Six arrested over fake PM Wi-Fi offer in Kolkata
Kolkata Police arrested six people, including five women, over an alleged call-centre fraud that promised lifetime internet access under a fictitious "Pradhan Mantri Wi-Fi Yojana", police said.
Callers allegedly posed as government representatives and asked people to pay a first instalment. Investigators suspect the group cheated people of crores of rupees.
Preliminary investigations indicate alleged victims were from different parts of India, including many in Kolkata. Police seized phones, laptops, customer records and a call script, and are investigating the extent of the fraud.
