Railways wins PM Surya Ghar award

Ministry of Railways received the PM Surya Ghar Excellence Award on November 5, 2026, for solarising the most buildings among Central Government ministries and departments. Vice President CP Radhakrishnan presented the award at Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 in New Delhi.

Under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, 12,495 of 15,868 feasible railway buildings have rooftop solar systems (79%). Rooftop solar capacity stands at 351 MW against a 424 MW target. Across 77 Central ministries and departments, 25,984 of 39,135 identified buildings have been solarised (66%). Ministry of Railways says it is committed to solarising all remaining feasible buildings by March 2027.
