Short Update
All 141 Khaira homes get rooftop solar

Khaira in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district is the country's first village with rooftop solar systems on all 141 households under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
Each home has a 2 kW system, giving the village a total capacity of 282 kW. Central and state subsidies, along with CSR funds, covered the installation cost, so families paid nothing.
Under net metering, families can use the power generated at home and send surplus electricity to the grid. Of the 141 households, 93 are covered by PMAY-G. The village's 21 Scheduled Tribe families and four Scheduled Caste families are also covered.
Local women known as PM Surya Sakhis went door to door to explain the scheme and help families with forms.
