Tamil Nadu CMCHIS sets Rs 25 lakh annual cover

Tamil Nadu Health Systems Society's tender for a five-year public-sector insurer contract sets annual cashless treatment cover under Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) at Rs 25 lakh per family at empanelled hospitals. The scheme is integrated with Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY). Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay announced the increase in the Assembly on August 19.
The 2027 guidelines in the tender cap the insurer's liability at Rs 5 lakh. Tamil Nadu's Corpus Fund will settle claims above that amount up to the cover ceiling, and the insurer will process them without an extra fee. The guidelines raise the annual family income ceiling from Rs 1.2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh.
Private hospitals carrying out high-end procedures must contribute 3% of the total package cost to the Corpus Fund. A High-End Technical Committee set up by the Society must approve those procedures.
