Short Update
Tamil Nadu introduces additional subsidy for PM Surya Ghar rooftop solar systems

Tamil Nadu government has approved extra state subsidy for home rooftop solar setups under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This support comes on top of existing central help. Eligible families get a combined subsidy of up to ₹1 lakh for a 3kW or bigger system. The state government set aside ₹50 crore for this, targeting 1 lakh users by March 2027.
Subsidy structure
Total money help depends on the solar system capacity:
| Capacity | Central Subsidy | Tamil Nadu Subsidy | Total Subsidy |
| 1kW | ₹30,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹35,000 |
| 2kW | ₹60,000 | ₹10,000 | ₹70,000 |
| 3kW & above | ₹78,000 | ₹22,000 | ₹1,00,000 |
Application process
Users do not need to apply again for the state subsidy. Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency gets applicant details from the PM Surya Ghar portal. Once the solar system is ready and the central subsidy is paid, the state subsidy reaches the applicant's bank account in 7 to 15 days.
