Railways receives PM Surya Ghar award for solarised buildings

Ministry of Railways received the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana Excellence Award in the category "Maximum Buildings Solarized by Central Ministries/Departments". Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan presented the award at Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

Railways has identified 15,868 feasible buildings for rooftop solar. Of these, 12,495, or 79%, have solar systems. It has commissioned 351 MW of rooftop solar capacity against a target of 424 MW.

Across 77 Central Ministries and Departments, 25,984 of 39,135 identified buildings have been solarized, or 66%. Ministry of Railways says it will solarize all its remaining feasible buildings by March 2027.
