TARATDAC demands disabled inclusion in Vettri Payanam scheme

TARATDAC Madurai City unit has condemned the Tamil Nadu government for excluding persons with disabilities from the newly launched Vettri Payanam free bus travel scheme.

The association stated that the initial Assembly announcement granted free travel only to women, children and transgender people. Following statewide demonstrations, the government promised during budget demands that the scheme would be extended to disabled individuals as well.

District secretary Balamurugan said the group was shocked to find the promise unkept when the scheme was expanded on Oct 2. Members carried out a protest in Madurai on Monday evening demanding an immediate amendment to incorporate free transport provisions for disabled people and their attendants.
