Karnataka CM Self Employment Scheme (CMEGP) Discontinued - Apply Under PMEGP 2026

Karnataka government's Chief Minister Self Employment Scheme (CMEGP) was a loan subsidy program for individual entrepreneurs in rural areas. The scheme has been discontinued from the financial year 2020-21, and no new applications are being accepted. Candidates who had applied earlier but did not get their loans sanctioned are now advised to apply under the PMEGP scheme instead.

Scheme has been closed or it was a one time scheme which has been closed by the government.

Under this scheme, the state government used to provide subsidy on loans to help people start new projects. Each beneficiary could get margin money or subsidy ranging from 25% to 35% of the total project cost, with the maximum allowed project cost set at Rs. 10 lakh. Department of Commerce, Industry and Tourism was the nodal agency for running CMEGP in Karnataka.

Since the scheme is no longer active, interested entrepreneurs in Karnataka can now apply under the PMEGP scheme to get loan support for setting up a new unit. PMEGP is a credit linked subsidy program run by the Ministry of MSME, with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) as the nodal agency. The official PMEGP portal is pmegp.msme.gov.in.

CMEGP Details & Eligibility Criteria

• Individual entrepreneurs in rural areas could avail margin money or subsidy ranging from 25% to 35% of the total project cost.
• Under CMEGP, the maximum allowed project cost was Rs. 10 lakh for any single unit.
• Capital expenditure loan was available only for manufacturing and service activities.
• General category entrepreneurs could avail subsidy up to Rs. 2.5 lakh, while entrepreneurs from SC / ST / OBC / PH / Women / Minorities category could avail subsidy up to Rs. 3.5 lakh.
• Public sector banks and Regional Rural Banks (RRB) were the financial agencies to provide margin money to entrepreneurs.
• The age limit for general category candidates was 21 to 35 years, while for special category candidates the age group was 21 to 45 years.
• Entrepreneurship Development Training (EDP) was required for the beneficiary at CEDOK, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development of Karnataka, or at RUDSET, Rural Development & Self Employment Training.
• Only one unit could be set up by a family to get support under CMEGP so that benefits reach a large number of families.
• The subsidy was available only for a single new unit set up in a rural area with a lock-in period of 3 years, and there was no income limit.
• General category beneficiaries needed to contribute 10% of the total project cost, while special category beneficiaries needed to contribute 5% of the project cost.

How to Apply Under PMEGP Scheme

Since the CMEGP scheme is closed, interested entrepreneurs can apply under the PMEGP scheme. Below is the complete procedure to apply online for PMEGP:-

STEP 1: Firstly visit the official PMEGP website at pmegp.msme.gov.in.

STEP 2: On the homepage, click on the "PMEGP Application" link and then select "Application For New Unit".

STEP 3: Here candidates need to enter the Aadhaar number, PAN number, name, date of birth, gender, social category and other basic details.

STEP 4: Afterwards, fill in the communication address, unit address, implementing agency and project information details.

STEP 5: In the project information section, candidates need to enter the type of activity, NIC code, EDP training details, project cost, number of employees and bank details.

STEP 6: Finally, review all the details, accept the declaration and click on the "Submit" button to complete the PMEGP application process.
