On the lines of CM Breakfast Scheme in Tamil Nadu, the Telangana government has launched its own breakfast scheme 2024. The main objective of the Chief Minister Breakfast Scheme is to provide nutritious food to the students. The students studying in government primary and high schools (from classes 1 to 10) across the state would be benefited.
Mukhyamantri K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) led TS state govt. has started implementation of CM Breakfast Scheme from October 6, 2023. The scheme will be implemented throughout 27,147 government schools across the state. Rama Rao asked the officials to ensure the food quality is maintained and random samples are collected to test the quality frequently and regularly.
The scheme would be launched in an attempt to address the nutritional status of school-going children which has been a concern and also to alleviate the burden of working mothers, the BRS government had said.
Chief Minister Breakfast Scheme 2024 Launch
Telangana govt. on 6 October 2023 (Friday) launched the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme for school children, aiming to feed about 23 lakh government school students. Several Telangana ministers including KT Rama Rao formally launched the nutritious food scheme at different locations. While launching the scheme, Rama Rao said “The breakfast is very nutritious. Taste is also very good”.
The state government had earlier planned to launch the scheme for school children studying from classes 1 to 10, from October 24, Vijaya Dashami day. However it advanced the launch. The scheme is applicable to all students studying in government and local bodies’ schools on all working days, a Government Order had earlier said.
By deciding to provide nutritious food to the students belonging to poor families, the government is taking steps towards increasing their focus on studies. The state government will implement the breakfast scheme from Dusshera and this scheme reflects the humane approach of the Chief Minister.
Many difficulties are faced by parents of students who are farm workers and leave in the morning to work. So, upon understanding and recognising these issues this scheme is being introduced. As per CM KCR’s decision, the state government has issued orders in this regard.
Background of TS Chief Minister Breakfast Scheme
It may be recalled that CM Sri KCR has recently sent a team of IAS officers to study a scheme which is being successfully implemented in Tamil Nadu. Under CM Breakfast Scheme in Tamil Nadu, school children of classes I to V are given nutritious food. A team of officers who studied TN breakfast scheme for students, submitted a report to the Telangana government.
It was brought to the attention of CM Sri KCR that in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Breakfast Scheme is being implemented only for students up to primary classes. However, Hon’ble CM, with a humanitarian perspective, decided to provide breakfast to high school students as well without sparing the cost. In Telangana, the Chief Minister Breakfast Scheme would be be implemented to students up to class 10. Telangana government is going to spend Rs. 400 crore annually on this new Chief Minister Breakfast scheme.
