Ladli Behna Yojana costs MP exchequer ₹22,680 crore annually

Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav said Ladli Behna Yojana is a "very costly affair" for the state. He spoke at a Bundeli Samagam in Bhopal.
The scheme pays ₹1,500 monthly to eligible women. This costs the state exchequer about ₹22,680 crore every year.
Mohan Yadav said the financial load was higher than expected when he took office. He confirmed the monthly amount went from ₹1,000 to ₹1,250, then to ₹1,500 in Nov 2025.
Data shows fewer women are covered now. Over 6.25 lakh women have dropped out since the scheme started. New registrations are closed.
Oct 2023 saw over 1.31 crore women covered. By Jan 2026, this dropped to about 1.25 crore. Women get removed at 60, on death, or if they lose eligibility.
Women & Child Dev Minister Nirmala Bhuria told the MP Assembly there is no timeline for reopening registrations for new eligible women.
