Status check works for new card applications, reprint requests and correction requests alike. Reference number generated at the time of application is needed for this.
STEP 1 - Visit official TNPDS website at tnpds.gov.in and look for the Application Status section on the homepage.
STEP 2 - Select the type of application, new card, reprint or correction, from the drop down menu.
STEP 3 - Enter the reference number received during application and submit the form.

Types of Smart Ration Cards in Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu issues six types of Smart Ration Cards, based on family income and category. Type of card decides what commodities and how much quantity a family can get every month from Fair Price Shops.
- PHH (Priority Household) - for BPL families whose income falls below the state poverty line, gets subsidised rice and other items every month.
- PHH-AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana) - meant for the poorest households, gives the highest quantity of subsidised grains.
- NPHH (Non-Priority Household) - for APL families with annual income above ₹1 lakh, gets limited items at market-linked rates.
- NPHH-S (Sugar Card) - issued to families who need only the sugar quota through PDS.
- NPHH-NC (No Commodity Card) - works only as identity proof, no commodities issued against it.
Eligibility for Smart Ration Card
Applicant must be an Indian citizen and Tamil Nadu resident. Family should not already hold a ration card issued by another state. Farmers owning more than five acres of land do not qualify under the PHH category. Total yearly family income decides which card type gets issued.
