Solar Energy Schemes Reach Millions of Households and Farmers

Recent government data shared in Lok Sabha shows the effect of local solar energy schemes. Over 51.27 lakh households have now used PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, and 28.39 lakh irrigation pumps have been solarised under PM-KUSUM. These schemes work based on demand to help people get power and support farmer income.
Solar energy progress in India
Since 2023-24, India added 114,502 MW of renewable energy capacity by July 31, 2026. Gujarat leads with 31,184.32 MW added, followed by Rajasthan and Maharashtra. To help with growth, the Centre released 28,700.2 crore rupees for PM Surya Ghar and 10,850.8 crore rupees for PM-KUSUM as of August 2026. Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is reviewing how these are working with states and banks to improve delivery. This is a focus for areas with lower renewable potential like Bihar.
