Only 25 percent of government skilling programme participants secure direct full-time employment

Gi Group Holding reports that 25 per cent of people in government skilling programmes, such as National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), get full-time work at the place where they trained. Also, 33 per cent use their training certificates to find jobs elsewhere.

Skill gap findings

Employers say 47 per cent of government skilling certificates do not matter when hiring, and only 15 per cent of employers find them useful. People looking for work listed these problems:

• Behavioural agility gaps: 38 per cent
• Old equipment or software: 34 per cent
• Wage mismatch: 13 per cent

The study, From Degrees to Capability: Redefining India's Entry-Level Talent Landscape, looked at 1,329 people across 12 sectors and eight cities. It shows 76 per cent of employers prefer practical skills over school degrees when hiring.
