Odisha opens 1,608 affordable homes in Bhubaneswar, lays base for BANDHU rental project

1,608 affordable homes for urban poor families in Bhubaneswar were inaugurated by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. These are Nilakantheswar Nibas at Ghatikia and Mukteswar Residency at Gadakan. Both were built at a combined cost of ₹161 crore. He also opened 12 playgrounds with sports and wellness facilities in the city and nearby areas.
Majhi laid the foundation stone for a rental housing project at Gadakana under PMAY-Urban BANDHU. It is a state scheme that works with the central housing programme to provide affordable rental housing.
Over 2 lakh homes have been sanctioned for Odisha under PMAY-Urban. The state plans to give about 5 lakh homes through Antyodaya Gruha Yojana. Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the units will help slum dwellers get a formal address and better access to education and social opportunities.
