Government Launches Incentive Scheme for Domestic PNG Connections

Households across India have a new update. Government has approved Incentive Scheme for Promotion of Domestic PNG Connections, starting September 1, 2026. This plan helps make clean cooking fuel more accessible by encouraging City Gas Distribution companies to expand their networks.

India currently has about 1.74 crore domestic PNG connections. Under this plan, companies get an extra 200 SCM of lower-priced APM gas for every new billed connection they add. This incentive helps companies cut costs by reducing reliance on expensive LNG. This will speed up the shift to piped gas, as the time taken to recover infrastructure costs could drop from 10 years to just three.

For citizens, this means a safer and easier way to cook. You no longer need to book cylinders or worry about storage space. You pay only for what you use, much like your water or electricity bill. This scheme is part of Women Empowerment Schemes meant to improve the daily lives of families across the country.
