Criteria for Selection: Clusters, Drone Didis, and SHG Members for Training
Criteria for Selection of Clusters:
- The application of drones in agriculture is most effective in large areas with similar commercial crops. The State Level Committee will identify suitable clusters. Suggested broad criteria for cluster identification include:
- A cluster of 10-15 villages / Gram Panchayats.
- A continuous area of 1000 – 1200 hectares under crops like cotton, paddy, sugarcane, chilies, wheat, orchards, or plantations.
- Clusters where Custom Hiring Centers are already successful.
- Clusters with strong Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).
- Clusters with extensive irrigated areas.
- Clusters with higher consumption of fertilizers and pesticides.
- Enterprising CLFs within these identified clusters will be selected by the State Level Committee and finalized by DAY-NRLM. The State Level Committee will also identify progressive SHGs from the selected CLFs in the states for receiving drones.
Criteria for Selection of Drone Didi / SHG Member for Drone Pilot Training:
- CLFs/State Level Committee will identify one active SHG member to be trained as a drone pilot.
- You must be female citizens between 18 and 50 years of age.
- You must have passed Class 10th.
- You must be mentally and physically fit and willing to undergo training as a Drone pilot from DGCA-recognized Remote Pilot Training Organizations (RPTOs).
- Upon successful completion of remote pilot training and obtaining the Remote Pilot Certificate, the female citizen will be known as a “Drone Didi.”
Criteria for Selection of SHG Members for Drone Assistant Training:
- SHG members or their family members (son/husband/daughter) who show an inclination towards repairing electrical goods, fitting, and mechanical works may be identified for training as Drone Assistants.
- You must have completed or cleared your Class 10th examination.
- You must be between 18 and 50 years of age.
- You must be mentally and physically fit and willing to undergo the required training.

Drone Pilot and Drone Assistant Training
- One well-qualified, mentally and physically fit member of the women SHGs promoted under DAY-NRLM, aged 18 years and above, will be selected by the State Level Committee for required drone pilot training. This will include additional training for agriculture-specific purposes such as nutrient and pesticide application.
- Another member or family member from the same SHG who is inclined towards electrical and mechanical repairs will be selected by the State Level Committee and trained as a drone assistant. It is important to note that drone assistants are not authorized to fly drones.
- The training will be provided as a complete package at Remote Pilot Training Organizations (RPTOs) approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
- The type of training (for Small or Medium Class drones) will depend on the drones supplied by manufacturers or purchased by the CLF.
- The training curriculum will cover drone flying, understanding Drone Rules, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for nutrient and pesticide application, practical drone flying, and minor repair and maintenance of drones.
