Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) is a major rural housing scheme launched by the Government of India with the goal of providing “Housing for All” in rural areas. The scheme was approved by the Union Cabinet on 23 March 2015 and implemented from 1 April 2016 as a restructured version of the Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY). Since its inception, PMAY-G has aimed to provide pucca (permanent) houses to homeless and those living in kutcha or dilapidated houses in rural India.
In 2025, several new initiatives have been introduced including the Self Survey through Awaas+ 2024 mobile app, fresh targets for the next four years, and a stronger emphasis on convergence of services and transparency through digital platforms.
PMAY-G 2025 – Highlights
Central government has extended the implementation of the PMAY-G scheme till March 2029 with an additional target of constructing two crore houses in rural areas. The original target of 2.95 crore houses under PMAY-G (2016-2024) is now supplemented by this new target.
Beneficiaries can now use the updated Awaas+ 2024 mobile app to conduct self-survey using Aadhaar-based face authentication. Field-level surveyors will continue to assist households that are unable to self-register.
All houses under PMAY-G are geo-tagged, Aadhaar linked, and payment is made through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
PMAY-G 2025 – Targets and Benefits
- 2.95 crore houses targeted under original PMAY-G phase (2016–2024)
- 2.75 crore houses completed till April 2025
- Additional 2 crore houses approved for construction by 2029

Self Survey Process Through Awaas+ 2024 App

Step-by-Step Self Survey Process
- Download the Awaas+ 2024 app from pmayg.nic.in. The app is available for Android and Apple iOS smartphones.
- Login using your Aadhaar number and perform face authentication using your mobile camera.
- Only one self-survey can be submitted from one device.
- Fill in household details including Aadhaar number, name, age, gender, caste, marital status, mobile number, and educational qualification of each member.
- Select one beneficiary from the household, preferably a woman. If not applicable, choose any other member.
- Complete the e-KYC process for the selected beneficiary using face-based Aadhaar verification.
- Upload geo-tagged photographs of the current house and the site for the proposed house.
- Provide optional bank details for record-keeping. Funds will be transferred using Aadhaar-linked accounts.
- Answer multiple-choice questions related to current house type, land ownership, and asset status.

- Filling detailed household information including Aadhaar, mobile number, and current housing conditions
- Performing face e-KYC for the chosen beneficiary
- Geo-tagging of photos and uploading data through the AwaasApp
- Verification at multiple levels (block, district) before final inclusion
