Online application process has changed for new ration cards in Karnataka, and people now apply online for APL & BPL ration cards using the different processes. The state government had earlier opened the official portal ahara.karnataka.gov.in where citizens could submit online application for the new ration card, but that option now has been removed.
For 2025, the government has changed the entire process of online application and it is now Aadhaar-linked and OTP verification on mobile and fingerprint checks are required. Applicants can now apply online through Seva Sindhu Portal for APL ration card and through Janasevaka for BPL ration cards or need to visit the FPS shops or Seva Sindhu centers in their area.
4 Methods to Apply Online for New Ration Card in Karnataka
Direct online application option for new ration card on ahara.karnataka.gov.in has been removed by the department, however, you can still apply through FPS shops or Seva Sindhu centers, portal or Janasevaka. Below is the process.
Apply for NPHH / APL Ration Card on Seva Sindhu Portal
If you belong to the APL (Above Poverty Line) or NPHH (Non-Priority Household) category, then you can follow the below process to apply online for APL ration card.
STEP 1: Go to the official Seva Sindhu Portal at https://sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in/Sevasindhu/English
STEP 2: Click on the “Application for Family ID/New NPHH (APL) Ration Card” under the what’s new section.
STEP 3: You will see the application form like below.
STEP 4: This is a long application form, fill all the asked details and attach all required documents including photo of each member.
STEP 5: Click on Submit in the bottom of the application form.
Apply for BPL Ration card through Janasevaka
If you belong to the below poverty line category than you can apply for BPL ration card in Karnataka through Janasevaka service. For this, you will need to book a slot for application using the below process.
STEP 1: Go to the official Janasevaka portal at https://janasevaka.karnataka.gov.in
STEP 2: Click on “Book a Slot” button as shown in below image.
STEP 3: Now, the slot booking form will open as below. Select your district, constituency, ward or just enter the PIN code in the search by Option.
STEP 4: Search for “Ration” in service list and select “New BPL Ration Card“
STEP 5: Submit the form and the officials will come to your address to complete your application for BPL ration card in Karnataka.
This service is currently available in Banglore Urban but might soon expand to other districts in the state.

Apply through FPS
STEP 1: Visit the official website ahara.karnataka.gov.in and open the e-Services section.
STEP 2: Select e-Fair Price Shop from the list and then click “Show FPS Taluka list”.
STEP 3: Now select your district and taluk to see the FPS list.
STEP 4: In the list, you will see the shop number, name, address and phone number and the no. of ration cards under that shop.
STEP 5: Contact the shop owner and collect the required documents and visit the FPS.
Apply Through Seva Sindhu Centers
You can also apply online through the official Seva Sindhu Portal using the below process or you can visit the nearest Seva Sindhu Center for new ration card.
STEP 1: Go to the official Seva Sindhu Portal services page.
STEP 2: Search and click on New Ration Card under the Food and Civil Supplies Department.
STEP 3: Then click on “Apply Online“.
STEP 4: If you already do not have registered account on the Seva Sindhu Portal, then you will have to first create a new account and then login, and then repeat the above process.

Eligibility
Only permanent residents of Karnataka can apply. Families that need government food support or belong to weaker income groups are eligible.
