WB Khelashree Scheme 2024: West Bengal government has launched WB Khela Hobe Scheme on 2 August 2021. The new youth empowerment scheme namely Khela Hobe Yojna is launched by CM Mamata Banerjee at Netaji Indoor Stadium. WB Khela Hobe Scheme 2024 Details
Before the assembly elections, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave the slogan “Khela Hobe” to defeat its rivals (particularly BJP) in the elections. Khela Hobe was a Bengali slogan given by CM herself which means “Let’s Play or Play On” in English. This slogan of TMC party became popular among the masses and the ruling party once again got huge number of votes and thus got elected to power with Mamata Banerjee as its Chief Minister. Now the current state govt. wants to turn this slogan into a flagship empowerment scheme for the youth.
Launch of Khelashree Scheme in West Bengal
CM Mamata Banerjee said “Khela Hobe has become very popular. The slogan was raised in Parliament too. In the coming days, it will reverberate across India. We had granted Rs 5 lakh each to 25,000 clubs. We have done community development programs to take sports forward. I believe to take forward Khela Hobe we have to take it through sports. We will give one lakh footballs to the clubs in districts.”
पश्चिम बंगाल खेला होबे योजना Objectives
The new Khela Hobe Scheme’s main objective is to support sporting talent in the state. CM Mamata Banerjee mentioned that in the पश्चिम बंगाल खेला होबे योजना, govt. will provide footballs to enable youths to play football in the state. On receiving the footballs, youth will be able to excel in the football sport at the state level, next at the national level and finally at the global level. With the help of new Khela Hobe Yojana, youth will take the name of India to a new height in football sporting event. The youth of state will be able to learn sportsmanship spirit which is necessary to get successful in life.
Benefits of West Bengal Khela Hobe Scheme
West Bengal state sports and youth affairs department is going to hand over 1 lakh footballs to registered sporting clubs. Those sporting clubs which are registered with International Football Academy (IFA) will get 10 footballs each.

Observing Khela Hobe Diwas in West Bengal
CM Mamata Banerjee mentioned that 16 August 2021 was observed as “Khela Hobe Diwas” in the memory of the 16 football fans who died in a stampede during a 1980 game at Eden Gardens. Dedicating the day as Khela Hobe Diwas will boost sportsman spirit.
Clubs have already been enlisted under the scheme and Refugee Handicraft, an MSME unit, is making these “Joyee” footballs. CM Mamata Berjee wants to encourage Bengal’s youth to actively participate in sports, especially football and the Khela Hobe scheme is a big step in that direction.
Aiming for 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Banerjee had said, “Poore desh me khela hoga (Now, the game is on across the country). It is a continuous process…When general elections come (2024), it will be Modi vs country.”
