Central government’s has earlier launched SRESHTA Scheme on 6 December 2021 to work for socio-economic upliftment and overall development of Scheduled Castes students. This would be done by providing quality residential education to meritorious SC students in reputed private schools. In this article, we will tell you about the complete details of SRESHTA Scheme.
The government has approved a new scheme named SHRESHTA (Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas) for the purpose of providing seats for the meritorious SC boys and girls in the best private residential schools in the country. Every year, it is expected that about (3000) students would be selected for admission in Class 9 and Class 11 under the scheme.

NTA SHRESHTA (NETS) 2024 Apply Online
The National Testing Agency, NTA is inviting online applications for the National Entrance Test for the Scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Classes in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA (NETS))-2022. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the National Entrance Test for the Scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Classes in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA (NETS))-2022. Candidates can apply for SHRESHTA through online mode between March 12 to April 4, 2022.
SHRESHTA scheme aims at providing high-quality education for Scheduled Castes (SCs) students only, in CBSE-affiliated reputed residential schools. According to the official information, under this initiative, around 3,000 seats will be provided in classes 9 and 11, which will be fully funded by the Central Government. Candidates must note that the National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA (NETS) will be an offline test through which students belonging to the SC community will get admission in Classes 9 and 11 whose parental annual income is up to 2.5 lakhs There is no fee for the examination.
SHRESHTA NETS Online Registration
Step 1: Candidates must first visit the official website of https://shreshta.nta.nic.in/
Step 2: Then, click on the “Registration for Shreshta 2024” link.
Step 3: Accordingly, the page to make NTA Shreshta Scheme Login will appear as shown below:-
STEP 4: Candidates can click at the “New Registration” link. Then at the next window, click at the “Click Here to Proceed” button. Then the Shreshta Scheme registration form will open as shown below:-
STEP 5: Candidates need to complete the registration process by entering details such as DOB, Mobile Number, Email Address, and other details.
Step 6: Then, fill out the application form.
Step 7: Fill in the examination cities.
Step 8: Upload required photographs and signature and also upload income certificate to be uploaded.
Step 9: Take a printout of the form for future details.
According to the official notice, “The e-Admit Card would be issued provisionally to the candidates through the NTA website”. Candidate must carry the admit card to the examination Centre without which he/she would not be allowed entry into the exam hall. Candidates must regularly visit the official website for fresh details and more information.

What is SRESHTA Scheme 2024
Social Justice and Empowerment Minister, Virendra Kumar, on 2 December 2021 said the Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SRESHTA) scheme will enable meritorious SC students to have a better future. SRESHTA scheme will also aid in controlling dropout rates of students from classes 9 to 12.
Launch of SRESHTA Scheme
Central govt. will celebrate Mahaparinirvan Divas in remembrance of Dr. B R Ambedkar on 6th Dec 2021 (Monday) as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. At this occasion, SRESHTA scheme for socio-economic development of meritorious SC students will also be launched.
Quality Residential Education under SRESHTA Yojana
MoSJE Minister Virender Kumar said “SRESHTA Scheme will enable bright SC students to have a better future by getting high quality education, aid in controlling dropout rates of SC students from class 9th to 12th.”
MoSJE to Support Meritorious SC Students
In the next five years, ministry of social justice & empowerment (MoSJE) has decided to extend support to 24,800 meritorious SC students. The support for SRESHTA scheme involves approx. Rs. 300 crore for providing quality residential education to meritorious SC students of classes 9 to 12 in reputed private residential schools in aspirational districts identified by NITI Aayog.
MoSJE minister said he will also launch the special book published by the Dr Ambedkar International Centre, named Social Justice and Empowerment: Reflections from Dr. Ambedkar Chairs’. Minister will also release a brochure based on Ambedkar’s Panchteerth, schemes and scholarships for Scheduled Caste students by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Mahaparinirvana Diwas Programmes
Programmes relating to Mahaparinirvana Diwas will be held at various Ambedkar Chairs, Ambedkar Bhawans, and Ambedkar Parks, in addition to Parliament House and the Dr Ambedkar International Center and Dr Ambedkar National Memorial, where Pratima Bhowmick, Minister of State of Social Justice and Empowerment will preside, MoSJE Minister said.
MoSJE minister said evets will also be held by the Ministry of External Affairs at the Dr. Ambedkar Memorial in London. District level programmes across the country shall also be held as per communication to chief secretaries/principals/secretaries and others. The documentary film based on Panchteerth will also be screened live by the Dr Ambedkar International Centre, he added.
