Short Update
UP crosses 9 lakh rooftop solar installations under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

Uttar Pradesh has crossed 9 lakh rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. This added over 3,000 MW of solar power capacity.
UPNEDA says the state adds 9 to 10 MW of domestic rooftop solar capacity daily. This pace is close to Australia's average of 10.4 MW per day in the first half of 2026.
Ravinder Singh, UPNEDA director, said the scheme has created over one lakh direct jobs. It uses a network of more than 9,500 registered vendors for installation, equipment supply, transport and maintenance.
Eligible households can get combined central and state subsidies of up to Rs 1.08 lakh for rooftop solar systems. Apply before March 31, 2027.
Officials estimate the 3,000 MW capacity could generate about 1.35 crore units of electricity daily. This assumes 4.5 units per kilowatt on average. At Rs 6.50 per unit, that is worth about Rs 8.78 crore daily or Rs 3,202 crore annually. Actual generation and savings depend on weather, system efficiency and tariffs.
