PM Surya Ghar households report zero electricity bills and net metering income

Households in Chhattisgarh and Odisha that installed rooftop solar under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana say their electricity bills have come down to zero, and that surplus power sold through net metering can add to their income.

Rudra Prakash Sahu of Dhamtari district in Chhattisgarh installed a 3 kW solar system on his roof. He said he got Rs 78,000 from the Central government and Rs 30,000 from the state government as subsidy. His monthly bill is now zero. Surplus power from the system goes to the grid through net metering, which can bring extra income.

Bijay Kumar Mishra of Kendujhar in Odisha said a solar system was installed at his home under the scheme and his bill has fallen a lot.

Central Financial Assistance of Rs 78,000 is given for a 3 kW system, as per the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Households can register on pmsuryaghar.gov.in to apply.
