Organic Certification Renewal Begins for Nicobar Farmers

Andaman and Nicobar Administration started the renewal process for organic certification under Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana. This scheme helps farmers in Car Nicobar and the Nancowrie group of Islands keep their organic status.

Certification requirements

On April 6, 2021, the region reached a step where 14,491 hectares were declared a traditional organic area. To stay valid, this certification needs yearly updates on the PGS-India portal. By finishing this renewal, the Department of Agriculture helps restore support and improves direct marketing for local farmers.

This work is part of a plan to encourage chemical-free farming and protect traditional systems in the Nicobar Islands. It is very important for keeping soil healthy and helping local farmers.
