Maharashtra Women and Child Development Department has closed four of its schemes and will wind up three more in phases, as per a decision taken on 16 October 2026 and reported on 19 October. Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana is not touched, and its ₹1,500 monthly payment continues.

Schemes shut right away are multi-purpose social centres for women, grants to mahila mandals, help for rehabilitation of Devadasi children and solar power sets for anganwadis without electricity. Aid to NGOs running shelter homes and money help for children orphaned by Covid will stop in phases. Low spending and weak demand were the reasons given.

Third one on the phase-out list is Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana. Lek Ladki Yojana replaced it from 1 April 2023, and now its separate budget head goes too. Girls whose applications were approved by 31 March 2023 will get all pending payments by the end of March 2027. From 2027-28 the budget head is cancelled for good.
