Delhi rooftop solar scheme: 102,461 registrations in a month for free 3 kW plants

Registrations for Delhi's free solar panel scheme crossed one lakh within a month of the portal launch. The count stood at 102,461 up to 21 October 2026. BRPL areas in South and West Delhi lead with 37,168 registrations.
Areas under BSES Yamuna Power Limited in East and Central Delhi have 32,718 registrations. Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited areas in North and North West Delhi have 32,575. Bawana and Narela, along with planned colonies in West, North and Northwest Delhi, top the list because homes there have bigger rooftops and open space, PTI reported.
Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, the Central government gives ₹78,000 and the Delhi government adds ₹30,000. The state share goes up to ₹78,000 with a one-time advance payment of the generation-based incentive. Delhi Power minister Ashish Sood said the Delhi Solar Energy Policy combines state and central incentives to bring down installation cost.
In the first phase, 230,000 free rooftop plants of 3 kW each are planned by March 2027. The Delhi Solar Portal shows the scheme closes on 28 February 2027 and works on first-come, first-served for the first 2,20,000 eligible consumers. Group net metering lets multi-storey apartments share solar benefits.
