Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) under the Department of Telecommunications is running its Internship Scheme for 2026, offering 25 slots to engineering students and fresh graduates with a monthly stipend of ₹15,000. Applications go through the official TEC website at tec.gov.in and the tentative last date is 31st October each year.
Selected interns work at TEC's New Delhi office on real technical projects, policy studies, and research work in the telecom sector. Engagement is for 6 months at the start, and can be extended up to 12 months based on your performance and the head of TEC's approval.
TEC Internship Scheme 2026 Overview
This scheme is run by Telecommunication Engineering Centre, the technical arm of the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications. It picks up to 25 interns at a time to help study, formulate and review technical projects and policies handled by TEC divisions.
For a student, this is a chance to work directly with senior officers and subject experts on things like 5G, 6G research, spectrum policy, telecom standards and testing. Fresh graduates and post-graduates also get a shot at the same programme, so it is not limited to only current students.

Stipend and Certificate
Each intern gets a token payment of ₹15,000 per month. Payment is made on pro-rata basis for the actual days worked in a month, so if you join mid-month, you get paid only for those days. Amount is credited after the month is over.
On finishing the internship and submitting your final project report signed by your supervisor, TEC issues a formal Certificate. This carries good weight while applying for jobs or higher studies in the telecom, standards, or public policy space.
Eligibility for TEC Internship 2026
You must be an Indian citizen to apply. The academic requirement covers three types of candidates, so students, fresh graduates and post-graduates all get a fair chance.
- Students in the 3rd or 4th year of a Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Communications, Telecommunication, Radio, Information Technology, Computers, Electrical Engineering or a related branch from a recognised university in India or abroad, with at least 60% marks.
- Graduates who have finished a Bachelor's degree in the above fields in the last one year with a minimum of 60% marks.
- Post-graduates who have completed their Master's degree in the above fields in the last one year with a minimum of 60% marks.
If your marks are just below 60% but your project work or specialisation is very relevant to a TEC division, the selection committee may still consider your case. This relaxation is not automatic and is given only in exceptional situations based on TEC's needs.
Documents Required for Application
Keep the following papers ready before you sit down to fill the form. Missing documents are the most common reason for rejection at the screening stage.
- A detailed CV showing your academics, projects, technical skills and any prior internship or work.
- A signed letter of recommendation from your current head of department or a professor from your last institute.
- CGPA to percentage conversion proof from your university, if your degree marks are given in CGPA and not in percentage.
- Filled application form in the prescribed format (Annexure-II) available on the TEC website.
Selection Process
After the last date, TEC screens all applications against the eligibility rules. Names of shortlisted candidates are sent to the selection committee, which then calls them for an interview. Interview can be in person at TEC's New Delhi office or over the phone, depending on the panel's convenience.
Final selection is based on your academic record, area of interest, and how well your profile matches the ongoing work of a TEC division. Preference is given to candidates who have already worked on projects related to telecom standards, spectrum, cyber security, or emerging technologies like 5G and 6G.
Related Internship Schemes You Can Also Apply For
If you want more options apart from TEC, there are other central and state government internships open for students right now. Two good ones are the Prime Minister Internship Scheme for youth aged 21 to 24 with top companies, and the WB Student Internship Scheme for graduate students in West Bengal with a ₹10,000 stipend. Check the eligibility of each before you apply.
