The internship is open through the financial year, and eligible students can apply by sending their CV and application form to the department.

This internship is run by the Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance. Students doing post-graduation or research in Economics, Finance, or Management, and students in the 4th or 5th year of a five-year integrated law or professional course, can apply.

Internship Programme of Department of Expenditure - Introduction

The internship is strictly for learning. It does not guarantee a job in the Department of Expenditure. Interns get hands-on experience by working under the mentorship of senior officers and are attached to a Director or Deputy Secretary level officer in different divisions of the department.

The programme runs for two to six months during the financial year, depending on the requirements of the division and availability of seats. The department does not keep more than five interns at any point of time, so selection is highly selective.

Before joining, every intern has to sign a declaration of secrecy to keep official work confidential. The department provides office space and a computer with internet access. Interns have to be present in person at North Block, New Delhi, as the internship is fully offline.
