LLB Internship Programme - Introduction
Ministry of Law and Justice started this programme through the Department of Justice to train young law students in research and referencing work. The internship covers many areas of justice delivery, so students get a real look at how the justice system runs at the government level.
Interns work in these areas:
- Access to Justice, which covers Tele-Law, Nyaya Bandhu, Legal Aid and Pro Bono legal services
- e-Courts services and the computerisation of court processes
- Fast Track Special Courts set up for POCSO and rape cases
- National Mission for Justice Delivery and Legal Reforms
- Development of infrastructure for district and subordinate judiciary
Each intern is placed under a senior officer and gets direct guidance. The internship is full-time and physical, so students need to be present in New Delhi for the full month.
Duration and Timings
The internship runs for one month, which is about four weeks. Slots for the current financial year are announced on the official portal along with the last date for applications. For the summer phase of 2026, the Department opened three slots with last dates of 22 May, 19 June and 21 July 2026. Since all three windows have closed, students should watch the portal for the next monthly slot.
Number of Interns and Placement
The Department accepts a maximum of 10 interns for each monthly slot, based on its requirements. Selected interns are posted with officers at the level of Deputy Secretary, Director or Joint Secretary, subject to the approval of the Competent Authority.

Eligibility
Indian students studying law in a recognised college, law school or university can apply. Students in these years are eligible:
- 2nd year students of a three-year LLB course who have written the exam to enter the 3rd year, or students studying in the 3rd year
- 4th year students of a five-year degree course who have written the exam to enter the 5th year, or students studying in the 5th year
Students who already completed an internship with the Department of Justice in earlier years or earlier batches cannot apply again in the current financial year.
Exclusions
The internship is neither employment nor an assurance of employment with the Department. No TA/DA or any amount other than the honorarium is paid to interns, and the Department does not arrange accommodation. Students who have done an internship with the Department before are not eligible for the current financial year.

STEP 2 - Fill the complete application form with your personal details, course details, institution name and the month of internship you prefer.

STEP 4 - Check the details once, then click submit before the last date for that slot. Selection results are shared through the portal or by email.

- Aadhaar Card, plus a passport size photograph in JPG or PNG format
- Passing certificate, degree or marksheet of graduation or post-graduation
- Letter from the Supervisor, Head of Department or Principal showing your status in the institution

- Proof of identity and proof of address
- Identity card or proof of enrolment in the institute
- Bank account details for the stipend payment
