Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Internship Scheme 2026 gives full-time graduate and postgraduate students a chance to work on live food safety projects at FSSAI offices and laboratories. The internship runs every quarter through the year and offers a stipend of ₹10,000 to deserving interns for the full internship period.
FSSAI is a statutory body set up under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. It works under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and lays down science-based standards for food products across the country. The authority also checks the manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import of food so that safe and wholesome food reaches citizens.
FSSAI Internship Scheme 2026
The internship scheme is open all year round, and fresh applications are invited every quarter on the official FSSAI portal. For the July to September 2026 batch, applications opened on 18 June 2026 and the last date to apply was 27 June 2026. The next quarterly batch will open on the same portal, so students who missed this window can apply in the coming quarter.
The standard internship runs for up to 3 months and can be extended to a maximum of 6 months. No internship is shorter than 2 months. Based on your academic background, you get attached to a specialised division at FSSAI headquarters, a regional office or a National Food Laboratory. Placement domains include:
- FSSAI HQ, New Delhi: science and standards, regulation, compliance, HR, finance, trade, legal and policy work.
- Regional Offices (Kolkata, Ghaziabad and Chennai): food imports clearance and licensing work.
- National Food Laboratories (Ghaziabad, Kolkata, Raxaul and Chennai): food sampling and testing work.

Benefits
You may get a stipend of ₹10,000 for the total internship period if you are a deserving intern. Your work is checked on three points: your attendance, the assessment given by your reporting officer, and the review of your final project report by the Committee. Only interns who complete their projects and submit the final report get the certificate.
FSSAI provides you with a working space and internet access during the internship. You have to arrange your own boarding, lodging and travel, and you need to bring your own laptop. On completing your project and submitting the final report, you get an internship certificate from the Human Resource Division.
Eligibility
You can apply if you are a student doing a full-time degree at a recognised institute in India or abroad. Students who have already completed their courses are not eligible to apply. The courses covered under this scheme are:
- Postgraduate degrees or B.Tech/BE in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Technology, Food Science, Food and Nutrition, Microbiology, Dairy Technology, Agricultural Science, Biotechnology, Public Health and related fields.
- Business Administration and Management courses such as Finance, Marketing, Human Resource, Economics, Statistics and related subjects.
- Journalism, Mass Communication and Public Relations.
- Computer Science and IT (only B.E./B.Tech students in the 3rd or 4th year).
- Public Policy and Public Administration (offered only at FSSAI HQ, New Delhi).
- Bachelor or Master of Law (offered only at FSSAI HQ).
- Commerce and equivalent courses.
Make sure the office or laboratory you choose covers your field of study. For example, National Food Laboratories handle only food sampling and testing, so technical students are eligible for those placements. A preference given in the application is not a guarantee of placement in that division or location.
