Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 - Deadline Extended till 2028

Central assistance under the scheme has gone up to ₹3.59 lakh crore, which is ₹1.51 lakh crore more than the original 2019 allocation. Har Ghar Nal Yojana in Uttar Pradesh
Under the scheme, UP government started supply of drinking water through pipes in 1,606 villages of Mirzapur, benefiting around 21.87 lakh villagers there, and in 1,389 villages of Sonbhadra, covering close to 19.53 lakh people. Combined cost for both districts was estimated at Rs. 5,555 crore at that time.
Since then, UP government has waived the 10 percent community contribution that villagers earlier had to pay for a new connection, and this now benefits around 2.33 crore families in the state. Households only have to pay Rs. 50 a month as maintenance charge. On 1 April 2026, the Centre also released ₹792.93 crore to Uttar Pradesh under JJM 2.0 for further work.
Who Can Apply for Har Ghar Nal Yojana
This scheme covers rural households that do not yet have a piped water connection at home. Some basic points decide whether a household qualifies for a new connection under the scheme.
- Household should be located in a rural or village area covered under Jal Jeevan Mission, since urban households come under a separate water supply scheme.

Gram Panchayat office usually asks for a few basic documents before approving a household for a new tap connection under the scheme.
