Delhi Bed & Breakfast Scheme

Delhi Bed & Breakfast Scheme Launching Again: Delhi government is set to bring back its Bed and Breakfast (B&B) scheme, taking motivation from the successful Bed & Breakfast Scheme in Goa. This new scheme aims to boost the homestay sector in national capital by offering better benefits and simpler processes for residents who wish to run B&B units.

Background of B&B Scheme in Delhi

Originally started in 2007, Delhi B&B scheme allowed residents to register their homes as Bed and Breakfast units within 30 days. These units provide affordable, home-like accommodation and food to visitors, promoting tourism and local business. However, over time, the scheme stopped working well because of the rise of platforms like Airbnb and other homestay options.

Current Status and Need for Revival

As of 2023, more than 2,200 rooms across 432 houses were registered under the scheme. Even with this, the increasing popularity of private homestays and online rental platforms has made original scheme less effective. Knowing this, Delhi government is now studying Goa’s Homestay and Bed & Breakfast Policy to adapt successful features for Delhi.
