West Bengal Durga Puja Ration Package: 2.12 Crore Families to Get Flour and Sugar at Half Price

West Bengal will give flour, sugar and semolina at lower rates to about 2.12 crore ration card families during Durga Puja week. The state has kept ₹150 crore for this.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced it on Saturday. He said more than eight crore people across the state will get it. The money comes from the Food and Supplies Department.

The package runs during Durga Puja week, from October 17 to 21 this year. It aims to ease costs for ration card families during the festival.

What Families Get Under the Puja Package

Each eligible ration card family gets a fixed amount of three food items.

Quantities and prices:

  • 1 kg flour at ₹19
  • 1 kg sugar at ₹30
  • 500 grams semolina

The state will pay the other 50 per cent of the cost for these subsidised items. Flour and sugar prices are set. Semolina price is not out yet as buying work continues.

Tender work for flour and sugar is done. Semolina tender and buying should finish soon.

Over 2 Crore Ration Families Covered

About 2.12 crore ration card families in West Bengal get this. The government thinks it reaches more than eight crore people via the ration network.

This festive package is wider than schemes for select groups.

Food Minister Ashok Kirtania said it goes to eligible ration card families everywhere in the state. No limits by community or religion.

₹150 Crore Set Aside for Festival Support

West Bengal has put ₹150 crore for the Durga Puja ration package.

People pay only part of the food cost. The state covers the rest. Food and Supplies Department handles buying and supply.

At first, the government thought of giving the items free. Food Minister Ashok Kirtania said they changed it due to state finances. So this year, it is a 50 per cent subsidy.

Free Festival Ration May Be Considered Next Year

Food Minister said the government might make the package fully free later if funds allow.

This year uses subsidised prices. Families get festival food at lower cost, and the state keeps spending in check.

Actual rollout depends on finishing semolina buying and distribution during Puja week.

Package Open to All Eligible Ration Families

Government says the Durga Puja ration package is open to all, no religious limits.

Food Minister Ashok Kirtania said it covers all eligible ration card families in the state system. That is about 2.12 crore families.

It works like a public distribution measure tied to the festival, based on ration cards, not faith.

What This Means for Families During Durga Puja

Durga Puja is a big yearly festival in West Bengal, and homes spend more then. Selling select foods cheap via ration network cuts some food bills for eligible families.

The size means buying and supply matter a lot. Flour and sugar work is on track. Semolina process is finishing.

With over two crore families, it needs smooth distribution through the ration setup in the Puja window.

A Large-Scale Festival Welfare Package

The 2026 Durga Puja ration package mixes cheap food with wide reach via West Bengal's public distribution system. State commits ₹150 crore now, with room for free supplies later if money permits.

Right away, families get flour at ₹19 per kg, sugar at ₹30 per kg, and 500 grams semolina. Semolina price and buying details come after tender ends.

It puts the ration network at the heart of festival support, helping many homes handle food costs during Durga Puja.
